Gable Steveson will have no chance to rectify his first UFC loss if Sean Sharaf has any say in the matter.
Against all odds, Sharaf scored his first UFC win, and in devastating fashion. All it took was one big left hook to send the previously undefeated Steveson stiff on the canvas. A couple of follow-up shots for good measure, and the former U.S. Marine had just breezed through the biggest fight of his career. The victory will undoubtedly bring opportunity. Bigger deals. More fans. And potentially a blockbuster rematch?
Well, according to Sean Sharaf, he would never entertain a rematch against Gable Steveson. Knowing Steveson and his team would likely want to run it back in the future, Sharaf channeled his inner Apollo Creed with his answer to the hypothetical question.
“For me? Oh, they’re gonna want [a rematch],” Sharaf said. “You seen Rocky? Apollo’s like, ‘Ain’t going to be no rematch.’ No. There’s no rematch. You got to live with that one, bro. I’m sorry.”
Unhappy with how he was dismissed ahead of their clash, Sharaf listed several reasons why he has no interest in facing Gable Steveson again.
“The way he disrespected me, man. He called me a coward. The way he was just looking past me. He was doing all kinds of- he was doing a wrestling match before. All the media’s got him picked. He’s just like, he literally had interviews where he’s like, ‘There’s no possibility; I don’t see any way Sean could win this fight.’ And I’m like, bro? This is fighting, man. Anything can happen, man.”
Sharaf continued.
“And just the fact it happened in like 12 seconds. I’m like, bro, what the f*** do we gotta rematch for, you know?”
