It seems we can’t go a week without someone using BJJ to stop an idiot from hurting people.
MMA fighter and grappler Tara LaRosa successfully took down and restrained a protestor during a Veteran’s Day flag waving ceremony on a highway overpass in Portland. LaRosa, professional record 22-5, was live streaming when one participant antagonized the protestor by shoving a flag in her face, and a scuffle ensued. The protestor was seen criticizing President Trump before throwing the punch, and LaRosa immediately intervened.
Hitting a takedown and landing in mount on the protestor, the video picks up again to show the woman pleading with LaRosa to let her go as the situation stabilized. LaRosa later claimed in her report to the police that the woman had punched her multiple times and bitten her breast while being restrained. No arrests were made, and the name of the woman has not been disclosed.
Regardless of where you stand politically, this is an instance of a violent person being safely subdued with jiu-jitsu.
