Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Cody Garbrandt title eliminator added to UFC 300

UFC 300 is arguably shaping up to be one of the greatest combat sports events of all time and another blockbuster matchup has now been added to the card.

Deiveson Figueiredo is looking to make it two wins from two since moving to bantamweight after beating Rob Font late last year. If he wants to continue his run at 135, he’ll have to first get past fan-favorite Cody Garbrandt.

The battle of the two former world champions was confirmed by Ag. Fight earlier today. According to the reports Figueiredo and Garbrandt will collide in a high-stakes clash when the cage doors close behind them on April 13.

If the bantamweight affair does go ahead, it will be the latest in a handful of matchups that have been confirmed for the huge UFC 300 event.

Cody Garbrandt called for the fight against Figueiredo following his first-round knockout win over Brian Kelleher last time out.

‘No Love’ is desperate to put his rough patch behind him and push on with his career. After winning just one of six, the 32-year-old took a year hiatus from competing before returning against Trevin Jones at UFC 285.

Garbrandt cruised to victory and earned the unanimous decision on the judges scorecards. Nine months later, he would come up against the aforementioned Brian Kelleher and score a finish less than four minutes into the fight.

Currently sitting at #8 in the division, Deiveson Figueiredo is welcoming the unranked Cody Garbrandt for what is being considered a title-eliminator showing.

What happened to Deiveson Figueiredo and Cody Garbrandt’s scheduled fight from 2020?

At the height of his success at flyweight, Deiveson Figueiredo was vocal about a potential clash against Cody Garbrandt back in 2020.

The pair were scheduled to headline UFC 255 for Figueiredo’s flyweight gold. At this time, Garbrandt had won just once in the past four years with his beautifully timed knockout of Raphael Assuncao.

Despite the hype surrounding the bout, the Brazilian would instead be forced to face short-notice replacement Alex Perez after Garbrandt suffered a torn bicep in the build-up.

Figueiredo would go on to defend his gold in the first round. Check out the highlights below.
