As he eyes another shot at featherweight gold, Alexander Volkanovski has given his preferred result in the Ilia Topuria vs. Max Holloway title clash — and it’s a huge surprise.
In what many are considering one of the best matchups of the year, Topuria will put his 145 lbs strap on the line for the first time at UFC 308. Max Holloway will be standing in the opposing corner as he aims to continue his hot streak to reclaim the gold that he once held.
Though excited, fans are split on who they want to get their hand raised on Saturday night. Surprisingly, despite being knocked out by the Spaniard last time out, Alexander Volkanovski is siding with Ilia Topuria.
“Perfect world is Ilia in Sydney,” Volk confirmed. “But my head’s telling me, if Ilia wins, he’s not fighting probably straight away and he’s not fighting in Sydney definitely.”
“Max would fight in Sydney, but he’ll probably do BMF and probably fight featherweight a bit later. While that’s happening, maybe I dance for an interim or something.”
“The only reason why I bring that up is just because I want to fight soon. I don’t want to fight [in] July next year, then I’m like far out.”

Hoping to fight sooner rather than later, Volkanovski believes that he is most likely to get that if Ilia Topuria retains his throne.
“I’m gonna be very disappointed if that’s the case. I’ve waited long enough, I’ve rested, did what I had to do. But now, I’m ready to get back in there.”
“So, perfect world would be Ilia in February in Sydney, but I just don’t know if likely.”
“Money talks, you never know. So, maybe UFC can talk him into it.”
