Jon Jones relishing chance of being first to utilize 12-to-6 elbows

Jon Jones wants to be the first to display his vicious 12-to-6 elbows technique now that he’s able to legally utilize the strike.

Despite largely being considered the greatest of all time, ‘Bones’ officially undefeated in his career. While no man has bettered his inside the octagon, an illegal strike did cause him a disquification loss early into his UFC career. That illegal strike — the 12-to-6 elbow.

Speaking out on the new unified rules which now consider the elbows to be legal, Jon Jones couldn’t contain his excitement.

Jones first announced that he would love for his aforementioned disqualification defeat to be overturned.

“It just makes me wish that the disqualification was overturned,” Jones said regarding the new unified rules. “That’s the biggest feeling that I had once I learned that the rule is no more.”

The UFC heavyweight champion expects to be the first one to display just how damaging the attack can be later this month.

“On the other hand, I accept the move more than ever now. And, I’ve been training extensively on different 12-to-6 elbow attacks.”

“It’s funny, you know, because it’s been such a big no-no move. So, you train yourself not to go there.”

“Now, to be able to use that strike, I mean, it’s a very devastating strike and it just opens up so many more options. Both on the feet and in the top position.”

“I’m excited to hopefully be one of the first UFC athletes to legally display it at Madison Square Garden.”

Jones continued reveling at the thought of using the violent blow.

“It would have been nice [to use against Ciryl Gane]. In that position, having control would be more important.”

“But in this next fight, I feel like I’ll be putting myself in some really great positions to land the technique and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Jon Jones will finally get the chance to legally use the 12-to-6 elbow when he faces Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 on November 16.
