Former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor says his UFC return is in December, but there’s been no confirmation of that from the fight promotion.

McGregor hasn’t fought in more than two years.  The last time he was in the octagon he suffered a broken leg in his trilogy match with Dustin Poirier in July 2021.  Fully recovered from the injury, McGregor has been calling out fighters in the UFC and boxing.

He called for a bout against Justin Gaethje, KSI in a bare knuckle match, as well as Canelo Alvarez in a boxing bout.  ‘Canelo’ responded to McGregor’s call out while leaving a press conference to promote his September scrap against Jermell Charlo.

The boxing legend seemed uninterested in a boxing match with the Irishman.  When he was asked about McGregor’s callout, Alvarez waived it off with a laugh.  When further pressed on potentially facing McGregor in the ring, Alvarez said, “Maybe when I retire.”

McGregor will face Michael Chandler in his return, according to UFC president Dana White.  The two coached opposite one another on the most recent season of The Ultimate Fighter.  Chandler is ranked fifth in the lightweight division.  A win over ‘Iron Mike; would put McGregor right back in the top tier of the 155-pound weight class.
