Augusto “Tanquinho” Mendes can now check off another major life achievement for the year 2019: getting his U.S. citizenship.

Tanquinho, who won the 66kg division of ADCC this year for the first time in five attempts, announced today that he had finally been granted U.S. citizenship. The process for gaining citizenship in the USA is long, difficult, and expensive, and Tanquinho’s major milestone comes after eight years of him living in the country.
