Raufeon Stots vs. Danny Sabatello

Doug Crosby might finally need to answer for two back-to-back questionable scorecards.

According to MMA Fighting, Mohegan Athletic Department Director of Athletics Mike Mazzulli says he will review the three judges involved in judging the Bellator 289 main event between Raufeon Stots vs. Danny Sabatello.

“In the last Bellator event (December 9, 2022) there was a controversy in the Sabatello vs. Stots fight. After reviewing the fight, three rounds of the five rounds were extremely close and the other two were marginally close rounds,” Mazzulli wrote in a statement, according to the outlet. “One judge had Sabatello winning all five rounds, which is controversial. But ultimately Stots won the decision, which is the correct result. In an effort to make this a learning moment, I have informed all three judges we will be reviewing the fight together.”

Crosby was the judge who scored the fight 50-45 for Sabatello, who lost via split decision.

The investigation comes just days after Crosby was also criticized for his scorecards during the UFC 282 Paddy Pimblett vs. Jared Gordon fight wich saw Pimblett win via decision in a fight that the MMA community almost unanimously believes Gordon won.

It’s worth a note that whatever Mazzulli plans to do following the investigation will likely have no impact outside of Mohegan but it could potentially set wheels in motion for other commissions to dig deeper when issues like these arise.
